I visited Los Algodones for some dental and I tell you all about it

Hello! I’m in such a good mood, I hope you guys are too! I want to tell you guys about a big adventure I went recently with my family to Mexico to get our dental done and let me say that experience was really amazing! Oh my god I would do it all over again so I’m feeling really hype to tell you all about the trip.

I started to become obsessed with Los Algodones, Mexico since my cousins went there for spring break and when they retuned they told me about all the cool stuff there but what really took my attention was about all the dental business, They told me that they god their wisdom teeth removed at such a low price! They saved 70% of what they would have spent back home, I jus t couldn’t believe it!

I needed an orthodontic treatment real bad and as you may know getting one is not cheap at all so if I could get one for much less money it would be great. I talked to my parents about it and they said yes! They wanted to get new dentures and we started planning the trip to Los Algodones.

First we researched all about the place besides of what my cousins told us. We consulted numerous websites to learn about how to get in, where to eat, prizes, etc. There is a lot of information online and most of them pointed out that Los Algodones was really nice and safe, but most of all cheap.

We decided to go in our van and drove like 10 minutes or so southwest from Yuma, AZ and we arrived to the US-Mexico border, it was really short and to get in they didn’t ask us anything but we took our passport with us just in case. Oh, we also parked the van nearby in a parking lot that is really close to the border from the US side.

When we first stepped into Los Algodones it was really crazy. There were a lot of signs saying dental office and dental clinic available, also there is many people that approached us to offer sales and such in dental offices, I understand now why they call it “the dental capital of the world”. We said no thanks and went with the clinic we made an appointment before traveling.

The office is called Dental del Río and it was the same one my cousins went. And just let me say that the place was really modern and really nice, they have comfy sofas in the waiting room, a nice TV and even WiFi! We were attended right away, my parents went first and then it was my turn.

I was impressed by the fact that all their staff talked perfect English, they didn’t have any problem to understand us and to talk to us, so fluent! Even more than most Americans that I know!

The doctor’s name that attended me is Dr. Louisana Espinoza and she was really nice and polite. She made me feel so confortable and was really informative and professional. Regarding my orthodontic the process was really quick and painless. I could tell that this woman was really smart and experienced.

After I was done I talked a bit with her about the treatment and booked my next appointment and that was it. We only stayed like 2 hours or so and end up so happy with the results, certainly the trip was worth it.

Then we were really hungry for some tacos and the smell on the streets was not helping at all. We decided to go to one restaurant nearby and order our food. I forgot the name of the restaurant but the ambient was really family-friendly and most of the costumers were tourist like us, they were enjoying the Mexican music and the food too!

It was the best Mexican food I have eaten in my entire life, and the prices were really nice too! Then it was afternoon already and we crossed de border back to the States. We were really tired but it was all worth it, I’m going back in six months to continue my orthodontic treatment. Cheers!

Tips to choose the perfect toothbrush

Toothbrushes are the most important item to have in our bathroom for cleaning our precious teeth and they can come in many types, sizes and styles too choose from, so making the right choice it’s not as easy as it may seem. It’s really amazing the number of products out there in the market when it comes to toothbrush alone.

That is why we are going to help you overcome this pesky task with some useful tips to choose the best type of toothbrush for you. Remember that ch

anging your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months as most dentists says is really important for your mouth’s health to avoid most common diseases.

Speaking of dentists, I asked many dentists in Los Algodones Mexico and in the States to research a little about the subject and almost all of them agree that the best kind of tooth brush are the ones with soft bristles. Soft bristles can effectively clean our teeth because they treat them and the gums very gentle when removing the plaque and food particles that often get annoyingly stuck between them.

When considering the size of your new toothbrush opt for a small-headed one since they are can reach any place in the mouth with such ease. They certainly cover a lot of ground, including back teeth and even wisdom teeth, which are normally a pain to brush ad clean.

Also it is worth to consider toothbrush that comes with nice perks like non slip grips and flexible neck, tongue scratchers. There are many styles and forms so decide the one that suits your need the most!

If you need more orientation to choose the best toothbrush for you, don’t hesitate to consult with your dentist, but chances are that he or she will tell you the same. The best toothbrush will be the one that fits comfortably your mouth and feel nice in your hands when you brush and can reach any place inside your mouth easily.

One question I get a lot is about electric toothbrushes and personally I think that they are an excellent choice, although a little more expensive than your average toothbrush. If you can afford it I say go for it, they are really good at doing their job and a huge plus for lazy people.

When to replace your toothbrush

When you can see that your toothbrush is wearing down you should replace it immediately. Using a worn toothbrush can only make you really sick, because the bristles can collect many nasty germs that can lead to many oral diseases,

but if you change it every 3-4 months like we mentioned above you’ll be just fine.

Remember this advice clearly as taking good care properly of your toothbrush also improve your oral health, especially in kids, as their toothbrushes need to be replaced more often than adults.

Neglecting to buy a new toothbrush you are risking facing bacteria that can seriously ruin your mouth. There are many microorganisms that are transferred through toothbrush use and can lead to several health problems like gingivitis, black tongue, cavities and many more. This is enough reason to clean your toothbrush very often and replace it as soon as you see the bristles in bad shape overall.

Now let me introduce to you some nice tips to clean your toothbrush and keep it in good shape. Some of them you may know them already but refreshing your memory is not a bad thing at all, so let’s pay close attention to them:

  1. Don’t share your toothbrush, this will avoid getting germs and diseases.
  2. Rinse your toothbrush with tap water after using it to get rid of toothpaste and debris, this will keep it nice and clean.
  3. Get use to store your toothbrush in an upright position and let it air-dry, never store it in close containers because they are help most germs to develop.
  4. Keep all toothbrushes separated from one another so the germs don’t transfer between them, most families like to keep them together and this is a huge mistake.

Visiting your dentist at least twice a year for regular checks and cleaning will help you keep your teeth nice and bright. But if you are interested in get the best deals in any  dental treatment, you should try some dental tourism at Los Algodones, Mexico located just about 7 miles southwest from Yuma, AZ, after crossing de US-Mexican border.

As you may know, if you neglect your dental hygiene you are taking your chances to end up with gingivitis or other oral diseases that can lead up to teeth loss or decalcification. And this amaze me, because cleaning your teeth when using braces isn’t that hard at all, it just takes a little patience and dedication to do so.

Although it is understandable that at first when you get your braces on, brushing, flossing and all that jam will probably take 10 or so but as you keep doing it and repeating you’ll get so good at it probably that it will become a matter of seconds!

One of the first things to take in account right after getting braces is to get used to this, brushing and flossing it will be a little difficult due to the fact that the teeth and gums are going to be very sensitive. One simple trick to get through this is to just treat them very gentle and careful. You can even take a break from flossing for the first couple of weeks and wait to the sensitivity to go away.

How often should I clean my braces?

This is a question I get asked a lot by many patients that are new to braces and the answer is pretty easy. I suggest you should to brush your teeth at least twice a day, just as you would normally so without them. Don’t forget to brush them after every meal and to use some dental floss to keep them extra clean.

A huge advice is to keep your braces spotlessly clean is to get the help from some of the best dental products that you can find in the pharmacies in Los Algodones. Located in the US-Mexico border, they have unbeatable prices in dental care products.

And one of these great products is mouth wash. Use it to rinse and get rid of any food debris that occasionally gets stuck between your braces. It will be enough doing a rinse at least once a day and if you need an extra hand you can use a dental pick or a toothbrush but try to be careful when you pick between the wires in each bracket to avoid any damage.

Also you want to use small bits of toothpaste when brushing, this will help you to avoid doing any mess. As for the type of toothpaste, just go with regular toothpaste. Using whitening toothpaste will only clear your exposed teeth and when you get your braces off it will just look funny.

Having the proper brushing technique is a huge ally when cleaning your brace. The correct way to do it is to brush the brackets on each tooth stroking up and down and then side to side to cover the entire surface. Use the circular motion over each tooth to get that extra mile in coverage, especially when brushing the molars, tongue and cheeks.

When using dental floss you will need a lot of practice, because it is no easy task to do at first. Food residues tends to get stuck a lot so you will need to

floss at least twice a day too to ensure everything stays clean and healthy.

Another option if you suck at flossing it’s to use an oral irrigator, by having one in your cleaning repertoire and using it in your routine will be also help your gums immensely. Irrigators don’t cost too much now days and certainly add an extra when it comes to dental hygiene when using braces.

To finish, pay a visit to your dentist at least twice a year to get a regular evaluation and a nice cleaning. This is really important if you want your teeth to look perfectly white and healthy when you finish your braces treatment.

Preventing Gingivitis

For starters, gingivitis is an inflammation that occurs in the gums that in most cases it’s caused by an infection thanks to the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth. It can be a very serious condition that can lead to periodontitis, which are the major culprits of tooth loss in most adults.

What causes Gingivitis?

It is very common to get food trapped between teeth and gums, so we have to be very careful because this can infect the gums. And this can cause gingivitis, as its forms plaque which is a thin coat of bacteria that constantly forms on the surface of the teeth. By having a good dental hygiene routine, you will get rid of plaque, avoiding it hardens and becomes tartar that can develop a nasty infection below the gum line.

This infection causes that the gums separate from the teeth, damages the soft tissue and wear out the bones supporting the teeth. And if you let the infection run free, there is a chance that you can lose all your teeth, needing a the help of a good dentist to treat it right away.

Common symptoms and signs of gingivitis

This can sound a little crazy but it is possible to have a gum disease like gingivitis without seeing any symptoms. But in most cases, you will see symptoms very clearly, such as swollen gums, bad breath and bleeding when brushing or flossing your teeth. Other symptoms are recessive gums, loose teeth, presence of pus between teeth and gums and also pain when biting or chewing, among other.

Diagnosing Gingivitis

At first glance of any of the symptoms mentioned above, I strongly suggest you to go to a dentist as soon as possible to evaluate the symptoms and your case of gum disease. If you already have gingivitis or periodontitis, it’s better to call a periodontist, who is a dentist that specialize in gum disease treatment. Pro tip: in the town of Los Algodones, Mexico there are really good periodontist that can treat any gum disease at a very good prices!

Talking a little about the dental exam used to diagnose gingivitis, your dentist will use a small ruler to probe your gums and check for inflammation, this also function as a way to measure any pockets around your teeth. The normal depth is 1 to 3 millimeters, but your dentist also might practice a X-rays to check the status of teeth loss and damage in the bone structure.

Treating gingivitis

A safe bet is to create good dental hygiene habits. Avoiding any vices, like smoking or coffee abuse and alcohol also helps a lot to take care of your teeth and gums.

If you want some kind of medication to treat gingivitis there are many choices in the market such as antibiotic mouthwash that contains chlorhexidine and antibiotic microspheres made with minocycline that can be inserted in pockets after scaling and planning. Other Oral antibiotics are also a valid treatment for consistent gum inflammation.

In conclusion, it will depend on your dentist’s opinion. There is also a chance that surgery will be an option to treat gingivitis with procedures like Flap surgery, which is a procedure where the gums are lifted back while removing the plaque Then the gums are stitched back in in place to fit snugly around the tooth, concluding with the known bone and tissue grafts located in cases when the teeth and jaw are too damaged to heal for themselves.

The best advice I can give you to prevent gingivitis is to adopt a consistent oral hygiene, besides eating well by having a balanced diet to help your system. This consist in brushing your teeth after every meal, besides using dental floss and mouth wash regularly every day, for at least twice a day.

That is one reason alone to work on oral hygiene, to prevent people from running away from you. Besides, if you don’t attend your breath it can indicate that you have poor health, leading to diseases like gingivitis and teeth loss.

Now let’s review some really good tips to deal with bad breath:

Brushing your teeth regularly

One of the most common causes of bad breath is the food that gets trapped and forgotten in the mouth. This can lead the plaque to buildup in your teeth, collecting bacteria. To get rid of these, it is simple enough brushing your teeth at least twice a day and using dental floss regularly to keep them extra clean. Using tongue scrapers

Have you tried using a tongue scraper before? they’re a curious invention because they are especially designed to apply pressure across the all the surface of the tongue to remove bacteria and food debris. They look funny as hell, but they are equally useful when cleaning your tongue, and in case you don’t have one in your bathroom, you can use your own toothbrush to do the job instead, there are even some models out there that come with a built in tongue scraper, so you should consider getting on of those.

Avoid sweet and sour food

In short terms, sugar attracts bacteria and bacteria leads to the accumulation of acid that wear down your teeth enamel and ergo, causes bad breath. This is why avoiding sweets and sugar can help you avoid bad breath too. By generating a lot of saliva, which is body’s natural response to combat the acids we mentioned above, you should try eating more foods like pears, apples and celery.

And regarding sour foods, you should really avoid garlic and onions, because they are the most common in every meal, besides giving you terrible breath. Especially avoid eating them before social meetings, because brushing your teeth after eating them doesn’t help at all as the cause bad breath it’s related to your traveling directly to the lungs.

Cigarettes can severely harm your your gums, your teeth, and gift you really bad breath as a bonus. Besides it can cause you ton of nasty diseases such as cancer and periodontitis, these reasons alone should be enough to make you want to reconsider lighting up the next cigarette.

Learn the usefulness of the Dental Floss

Howdy! Today we are going to learn the importance of using dental floss every day in our lives. We can start by saying that dental floss plays a huge role in the important obligation of keeping our teeth and gums pretty healthy. Besides brushing our teeth, the use of dental floss also helps cleaning between your teeth, allowing you to get rid of the food debris that can accumulate bacteria that damage the teeth in the long run.

Many people wonder how often should they use the dental floss, and the answer is pretty easy, according to the American Dental Association (ADA for short), you should clean between your teeth at least once a day to assure you keep them really clean.

Also it is worth to remember that flossing daily also helps to prevent oral diseases such as gingivitis and cavities, not even mentioning that this also removes the plaque from the teeth,  avoiding that it eventually hardens into calculus or forms tartar.

What Products are recommended for Flossing?

The best thing I can suggest is that you should ask your dentist about what kind of dental hygiene products are the best for your case specifically. Don’t forget that they are experts and professionals on their respective fields, so any opinion that comes from them will definitively be the most effective for you.

Besides that, you should also focus in only purchasing products that contain the ADA Seal of Approval. This will give you enough security that they have been tested carefully for optimal safety and effectiveness, so you can use them blindly and they will complete their job all the way.

In today’s market there are many numbers of options for cleaning between each tooth besides the classic dental floss, such as products like the dental pick, the pre-threaded flosser, and there are also some cute tiny little brushes especially made for reaching between the teeth. Other products are the water flosser and wooden plaque remover, which are so much fun to use and are just as effective for cleaning between the teeth.

If you have any doubt, don’t be shy to ask your dentist how to use them properly, if you don’t use them properly you are risking a chance to injuring your gums. Choose the one that feels the most comfortable using and stick with it to adopt a healthy oral hygiene habit for life, your teeth will thank you later.

So when exactly should you Floss, Before or After Brushing your teeth?

This is one of the most common question patients ask, and surely one that can cause debate between many dentist and specialists. You could say that the dental community is split in half regarding this issue, but the truth is that it really doesn’t matter that much because there isn’t any conclusive studies that pints into the right answer.

One of the key things to take in account for is to floss between the teeth is to get it done. As long as you use dental floss or whatever dental product to clean between each tooth it doesn’t matter when you floss, just pick a time that you have free, it can be at morning or before you go to bed and dedicate couple of minutes to floss your teeth.

So at the end of the day it’s a matter of preference, I like to floss my teeth after I brush my teeth after lunch, it just does feel so nice to clean them at that time, but hey, it’s my opinion. You should choose whatever it works for you, as I mentioned before, the most important thing is to just do it.

As a final tip, remember that cleaning between your teeth should not hurt at all. Avoid doing it too hard or aggressive or you could end up damaging the tissue between your teeth, opening the doors to suffer gingivitis or periodontitis diseases.

And if you are looking for nice deals in dental hygiene products such as dental floss, toothbrushes and mouth wash, I suggest you to check out pharmacies in Los Algodones. Their prices are really unbeatable and you can find some really cheap prescription meds.
